The first of a two-course sequence required for biology majors, providing a foundation for subsequent
biology courses. BIO 103 focuses on scientific method, cell structure and function, molecular biology, principles
of genetics, evolutionary mechanisms, and classification and phylogeny of major groups of organisms. 3 lecture
hours and one 2.5 hour laboratory session weekly.
Prerequisites
Competence in mathematics and basic English skills, as shown by grades of C or higher in MATH 002, ENG 002
or equivalent.
