This is the portal course for the Medieval Studies Minor and is required for all students within the
minor. The course will touch upon many of the major aspects of the Middle Ages, focusing on important people,
events, institutions, and culture. Students will work with primary documents, and have the opportunity to study
one particular area in depth, and to produce their own interpretation and assessment of the selected area.
Although History and English are the primary foundation disciplines, this will be an interdisciplinary course that
combines art, architecture, music, literature, and philosophy into a continuum whose primary goal is an integrated
understanding of not just a historical period, but of a once vibrant world, its people, and its achievements.
Note: this course satisfies the General Education HIST requirement
