This course introduces students to the formation of the international organization (history, structure,
and function) known as The United Nations, through which they will explore, identify, and live the United Nations'
role in a multi-cultural and sectoral world. In an international setting, students have the opportunity to learn
about international relations and global affairs, encounter perspectives that literally and figuratively lie
outside the borders of the U.S. and that translate the interdependency of the world. This progressive learning
experience will promote the building of bridges across cultures and allow students to develop a realistic and
responsible understanding of how local actions can impact the world. Opportunities are provided to visit and
participate in activities at the UN Headquarters in New York City. The course is open to all majors.
